June is National Gay Pride month, and to celebrate I went down to New York to join my friends in watching the NYC Gay Pride Parade. Of course I was excited to support my friends and cheer on those who were marching, but I think I was most excited to do some colorful makeup. While on the weekends I like to get creative and rock some colorful makeup, rainbow eyes are just too bold for getting groceries. I created this Gay Pride makeup using Sugarpill Cosmetics, an indie brand that drag queens and bright makeup lovers alike love to use. Learn how to get my Gay Pride makeup down below!
Since it was incredibly hot out and I didn’t feel like putting on pounds of makeup for it to sweat off, I only used concealer on my face. The Tarte Shape Tape has been my favorite lately. It may have been a rookie mistake putting on concealer before doing such intense eyes, but since it’s only concealer, I could apply more later.
Because these eyes are so bright, a eye primer is a must! Especially if you don’t want your eyeshadows to stain, apply a base. I forgot my white base, but the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden was enough of a base for these eyes.
I worked in rainbow order, starting with the red. Using Love+ from Sugarpill, I applied that to the outer corner and applying it slightly into the crease, I was focusing more on the lid at first and then worked into the crease later. I then applied Flamepoint and Buttercupcake last. To blend the colors, I kept applying the colors slightly over each other. This is the easiest way to get a seamless blend between colors. It takes a bit of time, though. Usually I like to put a light color into the inner corner, but I took the yellow all the way to the corner.
For the other eye, I worked from lightest color to darkest, so I started with the lime green in the inner corner and worked out. I used Acidberry, then Afterparty, then 2AM.
To create the crease for the warm-toned, I took the colors from the inner and outer corners and blending them together. Red and yellow make orange. For the cool-toned eye, I took each color into the crease.
For the lower lashline, I applied eyeliner as a base first. Eyeshadow on my lower lashline fades way pretty fast. Using an eyeliner as a base helps the color stick around longer. Ideally I would have used a red on the warm-toned eye, but all I had was Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Woodstock. For the cool-toned eye I used Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Deep End. I matched the colors on the lid to the lower lashline.
To ground the look I applied a thick winged eyeliner. And to finish off this Gay Pride makeup, I applied two coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.
