Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette Review

The Urban Decay Naked Basics palette is one of my ultimate favorite palettes. The colors are ones that I can use every day for any look and the colors work with my skin tone perfectly. But unfortunately I’ve hit major pan on one color and a bit of pan on another. When I saw that Urban Decay was releasing the Naked Ultimate Basics I knew I had to have it. I’ve been playing with this palette for months now, and I have some strong opinions on it (as strong as opinions on a palette could be.) Read my Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette review down below!

The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics ($54; Sephora) is a 12 color palette filled with the everyday colors that you need. 11 of the colors are matte while one shade has a sheen to it. The colors range from light to dark and range from cool to warm.

Most Urban Decay palettes come with a two sided brush, and this palette is no different. I love that one side is a blending side and one is more of a smudger.

Left to right: Blow, Nudie, Commando, Tempted, Instinct, Lethal.

Blow: Light nude demi-matte. I was hoping that Blow would be similar to Venus from the Basics palette, but it’s much more satin and yellow. In pictures the shimmer doesn’t show pup much, but it has a slight sheen.
Nudie: Soft pink-nude matte. This is the most similar to my favorite shade, Naked2. It’s more warm, but looks the same. The pigmentation on this is great!
Commando: Light taupe-brown matte. I wouldn’t call this taupe, but I like it! It’s nice to deepen the crease without being too dark.
Tempted: Pale brown matte. Just a straight up brown. Great pigmentation.
Instinct: Medium pink-taupe matte. This is one of the coolest shades in the palette. I like to pair this with purple shades.
Lethal: Reddish brown matte.  This doesn’t show up as red in pictures as it is in person, but I love this to warm up a dark look!

Pre-Game: pale yellow matte. This is a great blending shade. It can be too yellow for my skin, but with a light hand it’s fine.
Extra Bitter: burnt orange matte. WHOA this is orange. It’s super buttery though.
Faith: medium warm brown matte. This is just a warmer version of Tempted.
Lockout: rich neutral brown matte. I love cool, dark browns, and I wish that this was cooler.
Magnet: smoky gray matte. I’m glad that UD included a gray! I think we forget how great grays are when you don’t want black!
Blackjack: warm black matte. It’s not Blackout, UD’s famously pigmented black, but it works! It’s a little patchy, though.

Overall, this palette is very warm. If you’re a fan of warm mattes, this is the palette for you. But if you’re someone like me who wanted a great mix of warm and cooler toned neutrals, this isn’t for you. I already have a ton of warm mattes in my Makeup Geek palette, and to have another palette of warms is kind of frustrating. However, this palette has all the mattes I need in one place, so I reach for this palette for often than my MUG one.

All of the shades in the palette are pigmented. The only problem shade is Blackjack, which can be patchy and hard to blend. All of the other colors are perfectly pigmented and a dream to blend.

While I think the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics is a great palette, if you have a great collection of mattes already, then skip this palette. There’s no need to make your collection more crowded. If you want a great travel palette, this is definitely it. Or if you’re looking for a palette with everything you need in it, this is great! But for someone like me who has 15 palettes and 8 matte black eyeshadows, then skip this one.
