I’ve always wanted to try products from Glossier, but I always convince myself that I don’t need them. I’ll either say that I already have a cleanser that I already like or I do the math to figure out whether the $18 Milky Jelly Cleanser is cheaper per oz. than my current $22 cleanser. Why would I do this when I want to try the brand so bad? I’m not sure. But I finally convinced myself to try something from this brand, so for Christmas I received the Glossier The Supers serums. These serums receive a ton of hype on YouTube, on blogs and on Instagram, and I was skeptical about trying these. But did they live up to the hype? Read my Glossier The Supers review down below!
The Supers are one of the newest additions to the skincare range from Glossier. The three serums are targeted for all skin types and work on all skin types. While each serum doesn’t specifically say it’s for a certain skin type, you can assume from the names and uses what skin type each serum is for. Each serum contains 0.5 fl oz. of product.
Each serums comes packaged in a glass bottle with a pink and white capped dropper applicator. The bottles look elegant on my vanity, and the sleek and minimal packaging makes them stand out amongst my other skincare products. Each different serum comes in a different colored bottle. I love that there is a frosted glass and one that is completely clear. It helps me remember what each serum is used for. However, some people have called out the fact that clear bottles allow sunlight in, which affects the ingredients. It makes the ingredients less effective over time. I just make sure to keep mine out of the sunlight.
What I also like is that on the back of the bottle is a label explaining exactly what the serum does. No weird language where you have to extrapolate the weird ingredients list to remember what the serum does. It lists it simply as “to bright dull skin” or “reliever rough, dry skin.” That makes it easy to decide what serum to use each time I do my skincare routine!
Super Bounce is described on the Glossier website as:
Hyaluronic Acid plumps skin up with moisture and Vitamin B5 brings back elasticity for supple softness—the “bounce” you want. Good for skin depleted from hangovers, long layovers, blasting a/c, or high high heat. The smooth, silky texture soaks in without any stickiness or residue, for instantly softer skin. Super Bounce is an integral part of the Supers squad: three concentrated serums to refill your skin’s deficiencies, strengthening it day after day. Bonus: Bounce is your BFF for a blissfully even makeup application.
This was the first serum that I used. My skin was feeling extremely tight from a recent snow storm and my face needed an extra boost of moisture. I dropped 3 drops into the palm on my hand and applied the serum with my fingertips. Super Bounce is the thickest out of the three and doesn’t run as easily as the other serums do. It also has a milky consistency.
My skin felt immediately relieved when I applied Super Bounce. It felt like drinking a big glass of water! My skin looked plump and the dry patches on my skin felt less rough. I love using this after using a drying face mask (or honestly any face mask.) This makes a drying acne face mask less harsh or boosts a hydrating mask.
Super Glow is described as:
For that “lit from within” look. Vitamin C brightens and Magnesium energizes for days when you didn’t get enough sleep or skin looks sallow. Like when you’re browsing Instagram after dinner and suddenly it’s 4am. Over time, Super Glow evens skin tone, and creates a light-reflective complexion. The water-like texture immediately absorbs into skin without a trace—use all over face, after cleanser, before moisturizer. Super Glow is an integral part of The Supers squad: three concentrated serums to refill your skin’s deficiencies, strengthening it day after day.
I was looking forward to this serum the most. I tried out a Vitamin C serum from my mom and it made my skin glow. Super Glow has Vitamin C and magnesium, so I knew that this was going to be my favorite serum. I applied 4 drops into the palm of my hand and applied the serum with my finger tips.
For some reason I expected a tingly, almost burning sensation. That didn’t happen! Super Glow didn’t dry out my skin, either. I like to apply this at night because Vitamin C doesn’t react well with the sun. If you do wear this in the morning, make sure to apply sunscreen to avoid discoloration and damage to your skin. This made my skin glow and made any acne marks fade a bit. I didn’t notice a huge difference the first time I used this, but over the week I noticed my face looking brighter.
Super Pure is described as:
Freaked-out skin, meet your match. The niacinamide and zinc in Super Pure soothe redness and help calm blemishes, respectively—especially useful during that time just before your period. Junk food and stress are other skin-disrupting triggers that Super Pure helps counteract. Gets irritation in check and flushes out impurities, including excess sebum that builds up inside pores. The light, water-gel formula quickly absorbs into skin. Super Pure is an integral part of The Supers squad: three concentrated serums to refill your skin’s deficiencies, strengthening it day after day.
I’m not going to lie: I didn’t really want this serum. I wanted to try it out because, duh, new skincare product! But I don’t have super acne prone skin and the only redness I have is around my nose. I didn’t have a big use for this serum. But I’m glad I got this in the set. My skin has freaked out on me after getting a cold, and now my chin and nose are breaking out like crazy. This serum has helped alleviate the bumps and redness contributed by that unwanted acne.
I use 3-4 drops into the palm of my hand and apply with my finger tips. Again, for some reason I was expecting a a tingly, burning feeling but didn’t experience any of that. This helps the least out of the three, though. While it is effective, it doesn’t work as well as Super Bounce or Super Glow do. I wouldn’t say it’s awful, but it definitely doesn’t live up to my expectations, even if they were low. Maybe if I had more acne I could see a bigger difference, but I don’t, so it’s hard to see the true capabilities of Super Pure.
If I had to rate my favorite serums, it would be Super Bounce, Super Glow and then Super Pure. Super Bounce has saved my skin this winter from the snow, wind and from my cold, so it is my most used and my favorite. Super Glow makes my skin glow, but I wish it had a higher concentration of Vitamin C. And Super Pure works well, but it’s just not for my skin type.
Are these worth the hype? Yes! These do what they are marketed to do and work well. A lot of people think these are expensive, but $28 for a single serum isn’t awful considering most serums are twice that price. $65 for three serums seems like a lot, but I’ve been using mine for every day for three weeks and have barely made a dent. These are worth the money.
That being said, there are cheaper serums out there with much more product and better mixes of ingredients. The Ordinary sells serums for as low as $5.80. That’s much, much cheaper.
I hope one day Glossier comes out with an anti-aging serum. I get that Glossier’s target audience are teenagers and women in their early twenties, but anti-aging serums are 1. expensive and 2. not made for young skin. Glossier has the audience to create a anti-aging skincare line that is targeted for prevention, not correction. I hope it happens in the future!
Glossier The Supers are sold in a Super Pack for $65 or separately for $28.
