Hayley Williams is one of my style icons. The risks she takes with fashion and her love for color inspires me to try new things and wear color that’s outside of my comfort zone. One of Hayley’s iconic looks is the makeup and hair she had in Paramore’s music video for “Misery Business.” So of course I had to try and recreate it! I may be 9 years too late, but better late than never, right?

To start off my eyes, I applied a primer and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a white base. The white base will help the colors pop more. Most of the eyeshadows I used were from Sugarpill, and while the colors are pigmented, they benefit from that white base.

I packed it on using a stiff concealer brush. This yellow isn’t as bright as the one Hayley used, but it’s what I had! This would probably look brighter over a yellow base.

I then packed on Sugarpill Flamepoint to the middle of the lid, about the width of that concealer brush. You don’t want the orange to overtake the yellow, so only apply a small amount. To blend the orange and yellow together, take a small amount of orange shadow on the brush and blend it into the yellow, and vice versa. I find this is the easiest way to blend colors!

The last color on the lid is Love+, the fiery red. Usually I stop where the lid ends, but Hayley took hers a bit further out.

To work on the crease, I took a MAC 217 brush and applied some of Buttercupcake up from the inner corner up to the brow. It looked like Hayley wore the yellow all the way up to the brow. I then took a small amount of Love+ and applied that into the yellow, but not into the brow. Blending them together created an orange. I also took a small amount of yellow and applied that around the red to blend it out a bit and not look too harsh.

To further blend the crease and add a matte brow bone highlight, I applied MAC Blanc Type under my arch.

To highlight my inner corner, I used Thrash from the Urban Decay Electric Palette. Hayley’s inner corner looked lime green at times, so I wanted to add in a small amount without overpowering the look.

Hayley didn’t have as thick of a wing as I created, but the wing I created is what I felt comfortable with. That’s why this look is inspired and not a recreation.

For my lower lash line, I applied Buttercupcake all around and a small amount of Love+ to the outer corner.Hayley Williams Misery Business Inspired Makeup | The Rebel Planner

I then applied mascara to my upper lashes only and tried to avoid my lower lashes. In some angles it looked like Hayley wasn’t wearing any mascara on her lower lashes, so I tried to only apply the smallest, tiniest amount. In some other angles it looks like she clumped it on, but it’s up to your preference.

For my face I chose a dewey, medium coverage foundation. Hayley looked like she had full coverage on, but I wasn’t comfortable with that (and I don’t have one.) I used Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation. I only powdered in my T-Zone where I tend to get oily.

Hayley wore a reddish blush, so I chose Easy from the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Blush Palette. She wore hers on the back of the cheeks, so I applied most of the color there and blended it towards the apple of my cheeks. Hayley had a bit of a glow beneath her eyes, so I applied MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Lightscapade on the tops of the apples and blended back towards the cheekbones.

Hayley’s eyebrows are pretty thin but filled in, so I lightly filled in my brows to give them color and shape. I didn’t fill them in as harsh as I usually do so that I could keep my brows as thin as possible.

The last step of the look is to apply the pink lipstick! I used MAC Chatterbox.

And that’s how you get the look! I used to wear this look a lot back in high school and when I was starting college, and putting this look on again felt nostalgic. I also felt like I could destroy the next person I looked at?? It was cool.
