If you don’t know, every May Erin Condren announces the new Life Planners for the upcoming calendar year. It’s an exciting time because there are many changes to the planners and additions that we didn’t even know we wanted. This year Erin Condren has changed a ton and I am here to share my thoughts on the new 2016-2017 Erin Condren Life Planners.
Neutral Colorway
One of the biggest changes to the planner this year is the new neutral colorway. In the past, Erin Condren has only offered one color choice for each planner. The colors of each spread changed each month and you were stuck with the colors that matched the three layouts. The new neutral colorway is grayscale with small pops of color. The tabs are black and the colors are more muted. I like this for a lot of reasons. The first is that if you didn’t like the bright colors of the past colorway, you now have an option for a black and white color palette. The second is if you plan with a lot of stickers and don’t follow the monthly colors, you now have more freedom with sticker colors without worrying about colors clashing. The third and last reason is that is looks more slick and professional. This colorway will be great for offices or other times when bright pops of color aren’t always wanted or allowed. The only downside is that it will be hard to cover black ink with a light sticker without the black showing through.
New Monthly Colors
Another new change to the colors of the planner are the colors of the original colorway. The colors have stayed the same for the past two years and now they are completely different. While some of the changes are welcome (September and July for instance,) some will be missed (May was so cute!) This is also frustrating for those who make and buy stickers. The sellers have worked hard on making stickers for the current colors and now they are different. Those who bought and held onto stickers for next year will be annoyed that now the colors are completely different.
Watercolor Headers
One of the changes that many people including myself don’t like is the addition of watercolor to the headers. There is this strange cascading watercolor that flows behind the first box of the vertical, on top of the horizontal and flowing behind the first box and just on top of the hourly. This only happens in the colorful colorway though, not the neutral. While the watercolor is pretty to look at and is nicer than the triangles in the current horizontal, they’re going to be frustrating to no-white space planners or those who go against the monthly colors.
Luxe Planners
One of the newest additions is the luxe planners. These planners have a faux leather cover that is permanently attached. These definitely look luxe! These will be nice for those looking to use their planner in an office.
New Coil Colors
One of the coolest additions is the choice of coil colors. You now have the choice between silver, gold, rose gold and black. The black is being shown with the neutral colorway.
Removable Pouch
Before, the pouch came already bound into the planner. But now Erin Condren is giving the choice as to whether or not you clip the pouch into the planner and where it can be clipped. There is a coil clip included specifically for the pouch. It also now has a zipper closure instead of the snap closure, making it easier to open and close. The pouch comes with compliment cards, the coil clip and a small sample sticker book with two pages of stickers from the new sticker book and the do-it-all dots.
New Accessories
While Erin Condren releases new accessories throughout the year, the launch comes with quite a few new things to add to your planner. There are now wet erase markers than can be used on the back of the interchangeable covers. They don’t smudge and only erase with water. There are now magnetic clips to keep some pages together. There is also a new sticker book. This new sticker books has stickers that fit into the horizontal where as the other sticker books only have stickers that fit into the vertical or hourly.
